Cantonal railway station makes Uri more attractive for commuters
The latest SBB passenger figures prove it: the canton of Uri is clearly benefiting from investments in public transport. The number of passengers boarding and alighting at Altdorf station has increased rapidly since the opening of the cantonal railway station in 2022.
In 2024, an average of around 2,400 passengers per day used the station: more than five times as many as in 2018. The changeover to the Zurich branch line in December 2023 provided an additional boost. Flüelen station continues to remain an important access point for rail transport in the canton. The analysis shows: this is not a case of relocation from Flüelen to Altdorf.
Combined, the daily passenger numbers at both stations rose from around 2,260 (2018) to 3,400 (2024) – an increase of over 50 per cent. It is thus clear that the canton of Uri has become more attractive for commuters. Better connections to long-distance transport strengthen the quality of the location for both the population and the economy.
