Isleten development

On 25 March 2024, Isen AG presented its revised plans for its project concept at Isleten. In order to shed light on the initial situation and the impact of the project on the municipalities of Seedorf and Isenthal, as well as the rest of the canton of Uri, Uri's Department of Economic Affairs, in collaboration with the municipalities of Seedorf and Isenthal, commissioned Hanser Consulting AG to conduct a study to determine potential. The results of the study are now publicly available and show that the project will generate substantial economic added value for the participating municipalities and the canton in which it is located.

ISLETEN Isen AG

At the media conference held by Isen AG on 25 March 2024, some key results were cited, and these are now presented in more detail in the finalised study. In addition to regional added value of around CHF 150 million during the investment phase, the project is expected to have far-reaching positive effects for the canton of Uri during the operating phase. The study assumes additional annual turnover of CHF 20 million after the opening of the project. The project is expected to create around 80 new jobs (full-time equivalents). In particular, the state budget is expected to receive revenue of CHF 5 to 10 million from property gains tax due to the planned sale of apartments. The project could generate 20,000 overnight hotel stays and a further 51,000 overnight stays in the serviced apartments. Today, Isleten has between 66,000 and 81,000 day visitors per year. Around 30,000 additional day visitors are expected thanks to the public catering and commercial offerings as well as the available seminar space.

The study also presents considerations regarding the traffic situation and anticipates a moderate increase in traffic volumes. Specifically, a 5% increase in traffic is forecast at the entrance to the village of Seedorf coming from Altdorf and a maximum 20% increase at the village exit in the direction of Isleten. At the same time, numbers on the 405 bus route and the number of boat passengers in Isleten-Isenthal are expected to at least double.

Cantonal Councillor and Director of Economic Affairs Urban Camenzind takes a positive view of the results of the study: "The project offers significant economic opportunities for the two participating municipalities and the canton of Uri. It creates a high-quality new accommodation offering on Uri's valley floor, contributes to the enhancement of tourism in the region around Lake Uri and thus closes a gap in terms of services. The project also has the potential to strengthen public transport in the region."

According to the study, municipal and cantonal authorities – with the involvement of the local population – can take appropriate measures in the upcoming project phases to help the project realise its economic and tourism potential for the benefit of the region.
