Development of Hotel Sonnenberg in Seelisberg
The Sonnenberg site will be repositioned as a striking hotel complex with national and international appeal, specifically orientated towards the location. The project’s design is impressive, thanks to the way it is embedded into the landscape and its sensitive dialogue with the location. It also provides the economic basis for successful implementation.
Hotel Sonnenberg will remain as the core building and will be supplemented by new buildings to the rear. It will be returned to its original use as a hotel. The exterior of the former Hotel Kulm building will also be preserved, with the exception of one subtle change to its appearance: apartments are being created. On the one hand, the new buildings consist of two buildings with apartments, which are positioned to the south of the hotel. On the other, in the northern part of the plot, compact, new individual buildings with apartments are planned, which are orientated towards the existing residential buildings in Seelisberg in terms of volume and design. The characteristic, publicly usable outdoor area will be retained.
The Governing Council of the Canton of Uri has approved the partial revision of the land use plan and the Sonnenberg neighbourhood development plan – the planning instruments are thus legally binding. The planning application is expected to be submitted in the second quarter of 2026.
